WHY IS The Swimmers WORTH A WATCH?
The Swimmers is based on the real life story of two sisters from Syria, Yusra and Sara who are professional The Swimmers as well. When the situation worsens in their homeland due to a civil war, both sisters leave for Germany in search of a better living. While it was hard to leave their parents and younger sister behind in war-stricken Syria, it was more difficult for them to cross the Greek sea where they were met with a near death situation. In order to save other refugees on the boat, both sisters swam across the sea and reached the European lands. Their determination to brave the adverse, away from their homeland was marked by their attitude of never giving up. Even though they were faced with anti-migrant prejudices, they never gave up hope.
Yusra kept training despite being in a refugee camp and when a refugee team was formed for the Olympics, she made sure to win the gold medal. This win was not only Yusra’s win, but it was a win for everyone who have been forced to leave their homeland and go to places where they are unwelcomed, treated as inhumans by fellow humans and are barred even basic rights. Sara too found herself affected with the circumstances and decided to help the refugees. Though they could survive, not many couldn’t in those harsh circumstances. However, their story becomes a ray of hope in tough times and an inspiration to fight till the end.
